Eric Idle

1943, South Shields, Durnham

Attore inglese. Studente di legge a Cambridge, è presidente del Footlights, il prestigioso circolo teatrale universitario di cui fanno parte anche J. Cleese e G. Chapman, con i quali forma i Monty Python. Verso la metà degli anni '70 si trasferisce negli Stati Uniti, dove scrive e interpreta la serie televisiva The Rutles. Oltre alle apparizioni ne Le avventure del Barone di Münchausen (1988) di T. Gilliam e Il vento nei salici (1996) di T. Jones, è protagonista di Hollywood brucia (1997) di A. Smithee e Barbagialla il terrore dei sette mari e mezzo (1983) di M. Damski. Apprezzato autore di teatro e cabaret, musicista e cantante, risulta particolarmente efficace nei ruoli in cui il suo aspetto gentile e ingenuo lascia intravedere una natura maliziosa e scaltra.
