1910, New York

Pseud. di Arthur Jacob Arshawsky. Clarinettista e direttore d'orchestra jazz statunitense. Divenne famoso nella musica leggera con l'orchestra che diresse dal 1937 al 1954, anno del suo ritiro da una diretta attività musicale, e nella quale militarono alcuni solisti neri, come Roy Eldridge, Oran Hot Lips Page e per breve tempo anche Billie Holiday. Diresse anche un piccolo gruppo denominato Gramercy Five.
