HAIKU FOR THE SOUL Poetry by JULIAN BOUND Exploring the concepts of Buddhist practice within the traditional Japanese form of Haiku poetry, each poem presents a guide for contemplation and meditation in both the emotional and metaphysical worlds found within the following ten sentiments of the self. COMPASSION: Compassion, a forgiveness coupled with understanding. PEACE: A strive for serenity within the self, peace comes from within. LOVE: An untold vastness of emotion, its range and depth exceeding that of all other sentiments. MEDITATION: Deepening awareness invigorating the soul, refreshing the spirit with channeled clarity. LIFE: A sanctity, a battle, a gathering of given elations, tumultuous and foreboding… life. HAPPINESS: As elusive as it is easily found, liberty granted in expressions of joy. IMPERMANENCE: Temporary, fleeting, all that has been has gone, as will all to come fade also. MINDFULNESS: Awareness to all surrounding, attentiveness to the consciousness within. REINCARNATION: To be born again, to experience the world afresh through new given eyes. KARMA: Action, in action, no deed unnoticed; no acts forsaken in the realms of karma's cyclic stream.
