Heaven Delayed

Tom Stienstra had three events where his life stopped before doctors brought him back. Amid the cessations, he experienced visions of heaven. In two cases, he was visited from friends long passed who gave him advice and instructions for when he returned to life. Even devout believers often wonder if there is a heaven. This book helps answer that question. Tom is America’s most traveled outdoorsman. His adventures include wilderness expeditions, hiking, camping, boating, canoeing, kayaking, flying, trekking, hunting and exploring. As longtime Sunset Magazine Travel Editor Peter Fish put it, “Tom Stienstra is the Yoda of the outdoors. He literally has been everywhere and knows everything.” Many can identify the close calls that Tom describes in Heaven Delayed. They include surviving a hatchet attack on the back of his head, being charged head on by a wild cow and several near drownings, including one where his brother jumped into an icy lake and another where his best friend saved his life at a flooding river. Then came cancer and the six surgeries on his brain. All brought alive in this compact volume of heartfelt writing from a man who has lived enough adventure for several lifetimes.
