Compositore inglese. Insegnò alla Royal Academy of Music di Londra dal 1930 al '33. Studiò la musica popolare britannica, che influenzò la sua produzione, e curò edizioni di musiche inglesi del sec. xviii. Ha composto, fra l'altro, musiche di scena, cori su testi di poeti inglesi classici, 1 concerto per violoncello e orchestra e 1 per clarinetto ed archi, anthems, cantate, circa 60 liriche.
