In this book, the author concisely summarises, how the monotheistic world religions can be linked from our current scientific and logical characterised perspective and how they can contribute both to individual self-perception and, fundamentally, to social cohesion. Readers are encouraged to draw inspiration from the diverse ideas in the text in order to observe the validity and effect of this one thesis in their own religious and/or non-religious everyday lives. In the Bible, the Gospel of John states: ‘God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.’ What is God's spirit? Uwe Gehlert explores this question in great depth. In order to gain an understanding of the terms ‘God’ and ‘spirit’ in a religious and scientific context, he draws on anthropological, theological and neurobiological sources. He explores the development of language and the brain in human history, examines the biblical story of creation and investigates the connection with non-Christian religions. His conclusion, as a proposed thesis, is: ‘God is a language-bound association for the self-reflection of the mind, which helps us decisively to inspire its creative power.’
