Man-Size in Marble

What if the figures carved in stone were not as lifeless as they appeared? In Man-Size in Marble, Edith Nesbit creates an unsettling Gothic tale in which an apparently peaceful setting hides a disturbing supernatural mystery. A young couple begins their married life in an old country house, hoping for tranquility and happiness. But strange stories surrounding the property and its past gradually disturb their sense of security. As unexplained events begin to intrude upon their lives, the boundary between ordinary reality and supernatural terror becomes increasingly uncertain. Nesbit's restrained storytelling makes the horror especially effective. Rather than relying on constant shocks, she builds suspense through atmosphere, suggestion, and the unsettling possibility that an old legend may contain more truth than anyone expects. Originally published in the late nineteenth century, Man-Size in Marble remains one of Nesbit's best-known supernatural stories and a memorable example of classic English ghost fiction. Perfect for readers who enjoy Gothic literature, supernatural mysteries, haunted settings, and atmospheric ghost stories. Enter the quiet country house and discover what happens when an old legend refuses to remain buried in the past.
