They are a new generation of Chinese who are venturing out of China to seek a better life and fortune in America. They number up to 37,000 in 2023 alone. That is 50 times more than two years ago. Why and how are they doing it? This new breed of Chinese illegal migrants are healthy, educated, well-nourished, sometimes accompanied by young children, and have enough money to pay fixers and smugglers, and pay boat fares, bus fares and air fares, to take the circuitous route from China to America. Still, they are risking life and limps to get into American as illegal migrants and asylum seekers. They are joining the hordes of South American illegal migrants taking the tortuous route to cross into USA from the Mexican border. Some paid people smugglers to take them through the jungle of the terribly inhospitable Darien Gap, a roadless, 60-mile stretch of rainforest straddling the Colombia-Panama border. It all started with the COVID pandemic, the lockdowns, and the social media in China.
