Maeve Binchy è stata una scrittrice irlandese. Si è laureata all'università di Dublino iniziando a lavorare come insegnante. Insegnò in una scuola ebraica e durante una vacanza in Israele iniziò a lavorare in un kibbutz. Durante la permanenza all'estero scrisse molte lettere al padre, descrivendo la vita in una terra che era sempre sull'orlo della guerra. Divenne famosa in questo modo come corrispondente dell’«Irish Times» a Londra, per poi avere un enorme successo come scrittrice.
