Optimizing Engineering Resources, The Pursuit of Management Excellence

Optomizing Engineering Resources Engineering is the engine, converting mental energy into work for most Corporations. Many organizations strive and hope to be World Class Organizations, but many implement sub-standard Engineering Engines. Any organization that desires to be leaders in their markets must embrace the need for Management Excellence. The goal of this writing is to design and present elements to Optimized Engineering Resources. The first element of developing effective engineering organizations is to understand the differences between higher-level talented professionals and sub-talented individuals. Section 1 discusses "Professional Talent". Beyond recognizing the differences between classes of professionals, many companies and organizations fail to develop higher-level engineering resources because of deeply embedded internal policies and practices. If there is a desire to benefit from higher talented professionals, principles are presented in Section 2, "Talent Rich Environments" that will help develop, maintain, and attract such professionals. Talent-Rich Environments will also discourage sub-talented professionals because it will be difficult for them to compete. As with most processes and advanced equipment, greater production can only be realized through appropriate installation, maintenance, and operation. Section 3, "Principles for Managing Engineering Resources", recommends several operating procedures that can significantly increase the effectiveness of Engineering Resources, possibly as much as 2 to 10 times that of basic engineering resources. Section 4, Practices for Talent-Rich Environments presents several practices that will improve the effectiveness of engineering resources for any organization but will have the greatest impact within Talent-Rich Environments. If the fundamental concepts presented are appropriately applied, the result will be more effective, innovative, and optimized engineering resources.
