Il materiale della BBC comprende due leggendarie registrazioni di In Concert. Il primo concerto risale al 1971 (con gli amici Chris Spedding, Graham Bond, John Marshall e Art Themen) ed è incluso nella sua interezza con la versione completa di 18 minuti di "Powerhouse Sod", presentata per la prima volta su CD; il secondo concerto risale al 1977 e presenta la band che Jack assemblò per l'album "How's Tricks". Sono presenti anche registrazioni audio e video del concerto speciale dell'Old Grey Whistle Test del 1975 con la band di Jack composta da Carla Bley, Mick Taylor, Ronnie Leahy e Bruce Gary. Il set include anche un concerto del 1981 registrato sempre per The Old Grey Whistle Test, un'apparizione televisiva del 1982 e le sessioni complete di Jazz in Britain del 1971 e del 1978 con Jack Bruce, Jon Hiseman e John Surman, oltre a una sessione per Later with Jools Holland del 2001. “Smiles & Grins" è la raccolta più completa mai pubblicata delle sessioni live TV/Radio di Jack e include un libretto illustrato e un saggio: una celebrazione appropriata dell'eredità musicale del mai troppo rimpianto Jack Bruce.
