Scrittore di storie e romanzi per bambini, al suo attivo ha più di cento libri. Dopo la laurea esercita per un decennio la professione di insegnante, per poi dedicarsi, assieme alla moglie Clare, all'organizzazione di Farms for the City Children (Fattorie per i bambini di città) associazione benefica che intende avvicinare i bambini di città alla vita di campagna. Nella sua fattoria nella campagna del Devon, duemila bambini all’anno passano una settimana del periodo scolastico tosando pecore e mungendo mucche. Il suo impegno civile e letterario ha fatto sì che diventasse, nel 2006, Ufficiale dell’Impero Britannico. Fra i suoi principali successi citiamo Il naufragio dello Zanzibar, Il Regno di Kensuke e La guerra del soldato Pace, tutti romanzi...
