Nina Bawden è stata una scrittrice inglese e ha scritto romanzi sia per adulti sia per ragazzi.Studiò filosofia, politica ed economia lo stesso anno di Margaret Thatcher. Scrisse il suo primo romanzo per adulti l’anno successivo la laurea. Il suo primo libro per bambini, The secret passage, fu scritto per i suoi tre figli. Il suo romanzo, Circles of Deceit, è stato finalista all'edizione del 1987 del Booker Prize, mentre The Birds on the Trees è stato tra i sei finalisti del Lost Man Booker Prize nel 2010.Visse molti anni in Grecia.
