Avi, pseudonimo di Edward Irving Wortis è nato a New York nel 1937 ed è uno dei più celebri autori statunitensi per ragazzi. Per i suoi romanzi ha vinto due Boston Gllobe Horn Book Awards, lo Scott O’Dell Award per il romanzo storico, il Christopher Award, la Newbery Medal e due Newbery Honors.
