The journal is his means of convincing everyone who reads it that he is not and never was a mad man. He is simply a man obsessed with large breasts who is being tortured and driven to the brink of sanity by things that are out of his control. Knight adds a twist in the way he uses the black cat and the Raven to enhance the story. Is Lenore a woman sent from the heavens or something else? Two policemen who do not believe his story but cannot find evidence of a crime. I dare you to read this story without shaking your head and rolling your eyes and sometimes laughing out loud.
