Visibile e invisibile. Tre notti di luce e tenebre

This fine book describes the moving experience of an acclaimed visual artist that had to undergo brain surgery, removing a tumor. The reader will consider it easy reading or a serious essay, depending on which aspects he/she picks - the book has both! The story proceeds on three levels, actually four, the autobiographical account of the experiences and day-to-day observations around and after hospitalization, the reflection of the artist on the mind/body relation and what it brought to her, and wider reflections on the workings of the brain with its dual aspects of body and mind. Yet there is still a fourth level to all of this. Namely, the book is accompanied by colourful reproductions of her one of a kind artwork that originated especially in the period following the events described here: oil paintings, some incorporating Venetian glass, and sculptures.
