Hilaire Belloc

(La Celle Saint-Cloud, Parigi, 1870 - Guildford, Surrey, 1953) scrittore inglese. Come G.K. Chesterton, di cui fu amico, propugnò il cattolicesimo in Inghilterra e criticò il sistema industriale capitalistico in Lo stato servile (The servile state, 1912). Si provò in molti generi letterari, dalla biografia al romanzo e al saggio (A proposito di niente, On nothing, 1908); ma predilesse le impressioni di viaggio (La strada di Roma, The path to Rome, 1902) e la poesia (Favole prudenti, Cautionary tales, 1907), nella quale, spesso rivolgendosi ai bambini, espresse la sua curiosità e il suo amore per la vita.
