Everyone has their demons. Star has Crow. Star is the client whisperer in Crow's business model. Crow identifies some poor soul, marked for death, and gaining ground in the fight against their own demons. Star finesses the client, breaking the news of their imminent demise. Once they believe her, she gets to know them, their hopes, dreams, and regrets, as they ruminate on the unfairness of it all. Then, she makes the pitch. Would you sell your soul to save your life? How about someone else's soul? That's the deal Star offers their clients. That's the deal Star made with Crow. In exchange for each client she signs, he takes away her relentless pain; and every other emotion along with it. "Who misses life's little happinesses in the absence of any pain and suffering?"--Star Crow is a true demon, celestial before The Fall. His schemes give him power and influence among his peers and draw the ire of powerful enemies. Star is a night shift coroner at the center of a supernatural, corporate battle, one she can't even see without help from the other side. That might be enough to scare her off, on a feeling day.
