1907, Londra

Seconda figlia del più celebre impresario teatrale del momento, Sir Gerald du Maurier, e di Muriel Beaumont ex-attrice, e sorella minore di Angela du Maurier, era anche nipote dell'artista e scrittore George du Maurier, di origini francesi.Inizia a scrivere racconti nel in 1928, e del 1931 è il suo primo romanzo pubblicato, The Loving Spirit.Nel 1932 Daphne sposa il maggiore Sir Frederick Arthur Montagne Browning (che rivestirà in seguito anche la carica di Segretario di Stato), e con lui si trasferisce ad Alessandria d'Egitto, dove scrive Rebecca, la prima moglie, la sua opera più conosciuta.Ha avuto due figlie femmine, Tessa e Flavia (nate nel 1937), e un maschio Christian Frederick 'Kits' (nato nel 1940).Nel 1969 è stata insignita del titolo di Dame Commander...
