Chitarrista e compositore spagnolo. Ricevuta una solida educazione musicale nel monastero di Montserrat, si dedicò nella prima gioventù a lavori operistici e, in seguito, a musiche per balletti. La sua fama è però legata all'attività concertistica, che esercitò principalmente a Londra e a Parigi. Per il suo strumento ha lasciato un nutrito repertorio (sonate, fantasie, temi con variazioni, studi) di impeccabile costruzione e di stile fondamentalmente classico, che fa di lui uno dei maggiori autori per chitarra.
